    Happy 40th Birthday, Kathleen!

    A
pologies for a quick post... if I am 100% honest, I have to admit that I promised my husband I would straighten up our house today, and well, he gets home in 30 minutes and all I have done today is work like a dog on emails, proposals, bookings, albums... you get the point. I ate breakfast and lunch at my desk, basically. Anyway... gotta go and be a good wife. But, first, I thought I would wish my friend Kathleen a very happy 40th birthday today! Her party was this past Saturday, and some of my dearest friends transformed out church into a New York City street. It was so great! So, happy viewing, friends!

umm... my friend Kris (remember her name? she made the decorations for Claire's cake) made this insane cake!

sorry, but this was too perfect. OF COURSE the sushi should be next-to the prayer room. I always thank GOD when I enjoy sushi! haha!

if you can read this candy bar, you are going to laugh at me for taking a picture of it and at my friends for naively buying it. i couldn't read it until someone pointed it out. dork!

    the Silvius family... Happy Birthday!!

    Her First Birthday Party

    I
only cried once on Sunday. It was at the precise moment that Claire was born a year ago. A flood of emotions finally hit me when my love reminded me of that moment... the first moment I saw her, the moment she was first handed to me... every sweet little moment and every HUGE feeling that came with those sweet sweet moments. And, now, Claire is starting the second year of her life... but before we went on with that fact, we celebrated her first year with a super fun party at Chris' parents' home outside Philadelphia. I worked pretty hard on all the decorations and details, so I am pretty pumped to share them with you. Happy viewing, friends!

... all the details... the cakes (yes plural- we had around 30 people there!)... the cookies... the napkin rings I made... the banners I made... the hanging picture cards of her monthly sessions... the flowers... and the fabulous hat that I found on etsy!

the "happy birthday" banner took me a while to make. i didn't love how the letters weren't super readable, but whatev... we are going to use this for years! i will HAVE to! ;-)

    the invites...

okay, i LOVED this cookie idea my friend Kris had! She actually was the brains behind this and the cake decorations. she's amazing at those little confections! (my hands aren't steady enough to do something I can't erase).

yes, my friend Kris made all of those little details on the cake. love them!

opening presents was super fun now that she had Christmas as practice. ;-)

Claire clapping to thank everyone for the gifts! (my brother-in-law Tim took these two)

... and here comes the cake! she's not so thrilled in this image, but that is because she doesn't know what is coming to her. We held off sugar for the year (apart from fruit or the small amounts in non-sweet cereal)... so this was fun!

    mmmm!

    smashing ensues...

Aunt Bri joined from her dorm room via Skype! haha!

a "bossy" face to close. Happy Birthday, little love!

    Babies

    Claire Anna at Twelve Months

    H
ere we go... last monthly portrait session... it was abbreviated since I knew we would get tons today, AND I did this shoot alone in our house (and she really wanted to go play with her toys instead). But, here she is! in her birthday dress! Happy First Birthday, pretty girl! What a joy you are!

    And... happy viewing, friends!

of course, you can't really get a one year old to pose. she chose this one. it made me laugh! (and by the way, this was taken with all natural lighting in our dining room with one reflector- we have two windows in the room).

    sweet smiles!

food helps... her new favorite pastime is feeding our dog Baxter (he's the white blurb at the bottom of the frame)

    Claire's First Year

    G
et ready for an epic personal post... today is the last day of the first year of Claire's life. This time last year, I was in a lot of discomfort (to put it lightly). Twenty-two hours later (January 17 at 12:50pm), we were holding our precious daughter Claire Anna. I can't believe how fast the past twelve months have flown by! It feels like just the other day and a lifetime all in one. I am so thankful that I forced myself to do monthly portraits of her, amidst our life pics. Since it is my occupation, it does get to the point sometimes when I just don't want to bring my camera or pick it up... that I just want to be in the moment living it and not just observing it behind a lens. So, for that reason, I am thankful I at least have portraits every month. And at times, I wondered if it were excessive, but babies change so fast in their first year that even if she didn't LOOK that different each month (especially 5+ months), there were new little things she would do for just a few weeks that I just HAD to capture before they were gone. For this reason, I want to start offering larger Baby's First Year packages... three times in a year (newborn, 6 months, 1 year) is fine... but if you truly want to capture each little stage, monthly is best. I won't talk details right now, but anyone that is pregnant and thinking of baby's first year should contact me to chat about the options LONG before that baby comes!

Anyway... Claire is amazing. She is such a perfect baby. She has a great temperament. She is social. She loves to talk. She will go to anyone... eat just about anything. She has been sleeping through the night since she was 6-8 weeks old. She is sweet and gentle... but also fun and playful. I can't wait to see the young lady she will become. Happy Birthday (a day early), Claire. We love you more than words could ever say. And, to our friends, enjoy this epic post with almost 20 of our favorite images of the year. Happy viewing, friends!

    not even an hour old...

5 days old... we have this one framed in our home.

ten days old. her nursery is my favorite room in our house.

one month... she first smiled around 2 weeks (at her activity gym), but this one is one of her first smiles at me!

this is also framed in our house. all time favorite of Chris and her. my two loves.

two months old (St. Patrick's day)... this is also framed. such a sweetie.

    three months...

four... she LOVED that activity gym so much.

five months (this is another framed one in our home)... the first day she sat up more than a few seconds.

another framed one... can you tell we have LOTS of frames in our home? ha! this is from six months.

this is one of my all-time favorite Claire looks... she is holding my lens cap at the boathouse at camp. (6 months)

this next one, we had custom framed in square format... it will hang in our bedroom to the left of where it was taken. sweet girl! (7 months)

"there is no such thing as a small moment."

    eight months...

my favorite pic of the two of us was taken in California when Claire was just over 9 months old. love it!

another nine month one in our yard.

    Happy Halloween to our ladybug!

ten months... oh, that pointing. she points at everything she wants or wants to see! (still)

eleven months... old enough to start wearing shoes (especially since it was getting colder outside)... Chris refused to buy any before then since she doesn't "need" them, so we only had a few that people gave us... and thus, she barely ever wore shoes. she hated them during this shoot (she wears them regularly now)

tomorrow is her birthday! i will post a very brief post of a few portraits I took of her before we left for Philly... and then her party pics will come next week. :-)

    Seniors

    Tots to Teens of 2009

    O
ne last post to close out 2009 (only 10 days into the next year- haha!)... our tots to teens! What a blessing it has been to work with so many families and seniors! As I started the year, I had a goal to get at least 30 portrait clients to help grow that part of my business (which is a little more family friendly than weddings). Well, I was blessed with over 50! In 2010, I would love to double that number! I just love my job. I love having the honor of capturing sweet priceless moments... coming into many of my clients' homes, getting to hold so many babies... playing with the tots... and then chatting with the teens about their future. Tots to teens will someday be my specialty; that is my hope, anyway. Alright... well... here is 2009 in review... happy viewing, friends!

starting with the newborns (since many of our clients don't live locally, we only got to one of these in the first 2 weeks of life)...

... wait, maybe i should've started with the mama's (not technically tots to teens, but they're working on one... or two, in Andrea's case!)

... the tots! too too cute! i could just eat these guys up.

some sweet families with babies (two of which were at the TRUE newborn stage)

    and families with tots...

    families with big kids. :-)

and then one family with teen daughters...

... and then a family all grown up.

and now our seniors... we had 16 high school seniors (and one college- my brother-in-law) this year! which was so fun, especially since we still haven't made any advertising or marketing efforts for them. hopefully, in 2010/2011, we will get twice this or more!

seriously, all of our girls were gorgeous!

    stunning!

and then some guys and a set of twins!

thanks again to ALL of our 2009 clients. it was an amazing year, in spite of the recession going on. we are so blessed to have such great clients!
